Gray suffered the non-contact injury on Wednesday during individual drills. After suffering the injury the Dolphins placed him on injured reserve and re-signed Gavin Escobar who spent the preseason with the team. Gray is in his sixth season in the NFL and was slated to be the team's number one receiver. According to Dolphins coach Adam Gase, the team took the injury pretty hard.

Gray was a quarterback at the University of Minnesota but switched to tight end and has enjoyed himself a nice career. With Gray out of the picture, all eyes will now turn to Mike Gesicki who the Dolphins selected in the second round of Penn State. A.J. Derby will move up to second on the depth chart and Durham Smythe, a 4th round pick out of Notre Dame should also get some more playing time.
Gray was more known as a blocker but has really improved on his pass catching the last few years. It is a big blow for a player that put in a lot of hard work and was finally on the verge of having a breakout season. The Dolphins open up their season on Sunday against the Tennesee Titans and it will be the first look at what the team will do at tight end.
