Per reports stemming from the Miami Herald, the Miami Dolphins are prepared to release their quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He's been the starter for nearly seven years with the team. The organization, including owner Stephen Ross, are agreed that they will be moving on from Tannehill.

The report also stated that the team would not be interested in bringing in Nick Foles or Teddy Bridgewater via NFL free agency as well. It seems like they will be anchoring the position with their 13th overall pick.

Former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones or even perhaps Kyler Murray of Oklahoma could be on their list of potential targets in the NFL Draft. There have been rumors that they might even trade up to take Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State.

If a team were to pick up or trade for Tannehill, his contract would have to be traded along with the quarterback. His contract limits the number of teams who would be willing to accept Tannehill because he would cost $18.7 million in base salary in 2019 and $19.5 million in 2020. That's a lot of money for a quarterback who's been very mediocre during his time with Miami.
Moving on from Tannehill would signal a likely “tank” for the Dolphins this season. Under new head coach Brian Flores and his fairly inexperienced staff, the team will not be expected to win many games this upcoming year. This will be even more so if they select a quarterback in the first round.
Last season the Dolphins finished 7-9 landing the second spot behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
