All offseason, the Miami Dolphins have seemed intent on opening the regular season with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback, but Josh Rosen has been giving him a run for his money lately.

That's why Dolphins head coach Brian Flores isn't 100 percent sure who will start the team's third preseason game, but he says it will “probably” be Fitzpatrick, according to Adam H. Beasley of The Miami Herald.

Now, if Fitzpatrick does end up starting the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars next Thursday, it will likely mean he will start Week 1, but nothing is set in stone just yet:

“I’m here,” Fitzpatrick said. “Whatever coach wants to do. Whenever he wants to put me in or not put me in, I’m ready to play. Whatever he wants, I’m here for.”

As for Flores? He is playing it coy:

“It’s hard to say without going through the film,” said Flores. “Fitzy went in there and did a good job. I think Jake went in there and did a good job. It’s always a competition. That’s the way it will always be around here.”

The Dolphins acquired both Fitzpatrick and Rosen this offseason, signing Fitzpatrick as a free agent and swinging a draft weekend trade with the Arizona Cardinals for Rosen.

Chances are, Rosen will be under center for Miami at some point in 2019, as the Dolphins likely do view him as the quarterback of the future, but Flores and the rest of the coaching staff also probably wants to ease him into action.
