Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has filed a lawsuit against the NFL for racial discrimination after he was fired for essentially no reason. As part of the lawsuit, text messages were included from New England Patriots boss Bill Belichick, who accidentally congratulated Flores instead of Brian Daboll, who was hired as the next HC of the New York Giants.
But the worst part, Flores was planning to interview for that job just days after. That means Belichick's texts were exactly how Flores found out the Giants were heading in a different direction.
Brian Flores appeared on ESPN's Ge tUp on Wednesday and passionately explained how much that exchange hurt him.
Article Continues BelowBrian Flores on the text exchange with Belichick: “Disbelief. Humiliation. That was a tough pill to swallow. I have a great amount of respect for Bill and Brian Daboll … I was upset that I wasn't getting a true opportunity to show what I can bring to a team.”
This stand that Flores is taking is very similar to what Colin Kaepernick did with kneeling during the national anthem. Sure, it has cost him a career in the NFL as a QB, but it is all for a bigger purpose.
Whether the league will admit it or not, there is undoubtedly racism in front offices. There's only one Black head coach left standing, and that's Mike Tomlin. David Culley was canned by the Houston Texans recently as well. Brian Flores is very courageous with his actions, so let's just hope it makes a difference when it comes to the hiring process of African-Americans in HC positions in the future.
