The long wait is almost over for Dalvin Cook. The Minnesota Vikings running back is preparing to play in their Friday night preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
If Cook does feature, it would mark the first time he’s played since he went down with a torn ACL on Oct. 1 of last season, which prematurely ended his rookie year.
Cook said recently that he would be “100 percent ready to go” for the start of the regular season. Appearing in a preseason game should certainly help strengthen that claim.
Article Continues BelowBig things are expected of Cook, the team’s second-round pick last year. He showed flashes of his tremendous ability in the limited time he spent on the field as a rookie. He picked up 369 yards from scrimmage in his first three games, including 169 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before suffering his season-ending injury.
The Vikings will be looking for Cook to fortify their ground game, which was not a particular strength last year. But while Cook is expected to be the lead back, he and Latavius Murray will likely form a one-two punch in the backfield this season, with undrafted rookie Mike Boone and Roc Thomas set to play supporting roles behind them.
Cook’s ability to lift the team’s rushing attack will help lift the ceiling on a Vikings offense which figures to improve with new quarterback Kirk Cousins connecting with wideouts Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.
