The Minnesota Vikings will have a crucial offseason ahead of them, and it centers around the quarterback position. They must consider the futures of the oft-injured Sam Bradford, Case Keenum, who led the team all the way to the NFC Championship Game, and former first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater, and determine if any of them is their quarterback going forward.
Bridgewater finally made his way back onto the field after missing most of the last two seasons due to a horrific knee injury he suffered in 2016. But while Bridgewater didn’t really have the opportunity to show off the progress he’s made during a live game, teammate Eric Kendricks told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the young quarterback was straight up “throwing dimes” during practice.
“When I know when a route’s coming and I’m practicing against him and I feel like I’m in a perfect position to guard it and Teddy puts a ball in the outside corner,” Kendricks said, “and he completes it on me in practice where I get frustrated and I’m talking about it the rest of the practice, I can say that man can definitely still play, absolutely.”
While it’s promising to hear Bridgewater performing well in practice, he still has to translate that during actual games, which can often be easier said than done. Apart from the physical aspect of his game, he'll also need to sort out the mental aspect as well, especially after coming back from such a devastating injury.
But if Bridgewater did look as impressive as Kendricks suggests, then perhaps he may have done enough to at least earn a shot at reclaiming his starting spot with the Vikings next season.
