Kirk Cousins is no stranger to asking people whether they like stuff. But when asked what he thought about wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ new contract, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback didn’t like it; he loved it.
Cousins particularly loved the continuity which Diggs’ five-year extension now brings to the Vikings offense.
“I love it,” Cousins said per Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Continuity, to me, is very important. And it’s not a luxury we have in the NFL these days. There is a lot of change year in and year out, so I’ve come to expect that and understand you can’t use that as an excuse. You have to, as the new players come in, we have to learn quickly and get caught up to speed and go.”
Like Cousins, the Vikings also clearly value continuity. That’s why they’ve handed out hefty long-term contracts to their key players like Diggs, Adam Thielen, Danielle Hunter, Xavier Rhodes, Everson Griffin, Linval Joseph, Harrison Smith, and Reilly Reiff, which will keep their core together for at least 2020.
That’s great news for Cousins, who didn’t experience too much stability during his time with Washington. He’s already built a strong relationship with Diggs, who says he loves playing with Cousins.
With Diggs locked up until 2023 and Thielen also on the books until 2020 like Cousins, the three of them will have a chance to build a strong chemistry and form possibly one of the best passing games in the league over the next three seasons.
