Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins is set to enter his first year with the Minnesota Vikings where he will be a huge part of the offensive game plan as the primary cog.
It is a major transition in his career marking the first time that he will be playing for another team aside from the Washington Redskins. With that in mind, Cousins has stated that he is relying on some advice that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady gave him back in 2015, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
Article Continues Below“I remember when we played the Patriots in 2015, I just asked Tom [Brady], ‘At what point did it start clicking for you?'” Cousins recalled. “Essentially what I am asking him was, ‘At what point did you have it completely figured out?' He said, ‘It's still clicking. It's still a process.' I've always taken that with me and felt like every day I come out here I pick up something new. I sharpen a skill. It will always be that way until the day I retire. Certainly, when you're in your first year in an offense and haven't played in a real game yet, there is a lot more sharpening to do than Year 5 or 6. If you are asking am I ready to go and ready to play at a high level, I do think that is where I need to be and that is what I like to think where I am.”
The fact that Brady stated that he is still learning even at the stage of his career has given Cousins the notion that there is always more that can be picked up. It is a never-ending quest for perfecting the craft because there is always a new obstacle ahead that provides a difficult challenge.
This is the case with the Vikings for Cousins as he is picking up an entirely new offense that he will have to master this upcoming season. Minnesota is hoping he can be the missing piece to the puzzle that can lift them into playoff contention in the 2018 campaign.
The motivation is certainly there for Cousins to step and prove can lead the Vikings to success with the goal of reaching the Super Bowl ahead of him in this next chapter of his career.
