The New England Patriots came up short in their historic journey to win Super Bowl LII. Regardless, there is still little debate regarding Tom Brady's legacy as the greatest quarterback of all time. The Patriots star already had five rings when he entered his eighth Super Bowl appearance against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month.

However, Washington Redskins legend Dexter Manley feels that is hardly an argument to make when ranking Brady amongst the greats.

Needless to say, Manley gave an impassioned speech on the Donald Dell Interview with NBC Sports discussing why NFL legends Joe Montana and Dan Marino were better than him.

“People give Tom Brady too much credit,” Manley said. “It is a team effort. No. 1, he gets the ball out of his hand quick. He has good mechanics, but he’s no Joe Montana. My daughter could out-run Tom Brady. Joe Montana is the best of all-time. He’s the best passer — him and Dan Marino. That guy don’t fit in those categories. I don’t care what they say.”

Manley's dismissal of Brady's feats should come as no surprise considering the generation he played in. He even admitted that Montana was his favorite quarterback to sack because he was the greatest.

Then again, one does not earn the nickname of “Secretary of Defense” without making it a habit of terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. He had a front row seat during Montana and Marino's primes.

Of course, Montana is seemingly the only name that truly stands in the way of Brady's status as the G.O.A.T. in NFL history. Regardless of what he accomplishes the rest of his career, debates such as these are largely a matter of perspective and have no specific set of criteria to go by. That said, it seems the debate will forever be divided between those who watched the Montana Era and the modern-day NFL fan.
