The New Orleans Saints had a great win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7, improving to 4-2 on the season. They won 13-10 and were led by a great defense and timely offensive plays.

Seattle lost another tight game without Russell Wilson under center. This helped the Saints hold the Seahawks' offense under control, as they didn't have to deal with the phenomenal quarterback. Alvin Kamara was the key to their offensive success since he was the top threat in the rushing and receiving game.

With that said, here are three Saints takeaways from their Week 7 win over the Seahawks.

New Orleans Saints Week 7 Takeaways

3. The defense is elite

The new Orleans defense has elite players at every level, which is why they have been able to hold offenses to low numbers. Demario Davis had a fantastic game against the Seahawks, finishing with four tackles for loss and two sacks. Star pass rusher Cameron Jordan contributed with a sack and stamped his impact on the game.

Pressuring Geno Smith was vital in the Saints getting stops, as it didn't allow him to get in a rhythm. New Orleans had five total sacks along with eight quarterback hits.

Look for the defense to be the catalyst for the team as they make a push to the playoffs.

2. The Saints need Michael Thomas

While the Saints' defense has been great, the offense has been far from it. Aside from their star running back, Kamara, no one has been a consistent contributor.

With the trade deadline coming up, Sean Payton and Co. could look into trading for a wide receiver. However, they need their star wideout Michael Thomas to return from injury.

Thomas has been an integral part of the Saints' offense since his rookie campaign. With Drew Brees gone, Jameis Winston has had to adjust to being a starting quarterback again while not having good receivers to throw to. Winston threw for 222 yards along with one touchdown and a 54.2 completion percentage. Although Winston didn't turn the ball over, he was unable to complete a high percentage of his passes or find the endzone.

The leading receiver for the team against the Seahawks was Kamara, who had ten receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown.

It was an excellent performance for Kamara, but the New Orleans' top receiver should not be their running back. The next leading receiver for the team only had three receptions, which shows they need improvement.

They need Thomas back as soon as possible to help kickstart the passing attack.

1. Alvin Kamara is a Top 3 running back

Without Kamara, the Saints' offense would have struggled even more to put points on the board. Over the past few years, there have been great running backs that are often disputed for the top spots in the league. After a game like this, Kamara has solidified himself as a Top 3 back in the NFL.

He can impact the game in a variety of ways due to his receiving and rushing ability. Not many running backs can takeover a game, but Kamara proved that he could against the Seahawks. The Saints had an overall atrocious performance offensively, but the 26-year-old as able to elevate it enough to pick up the win.

The Saints now move on to a challenging divisional game against the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Divisional games can be crucial down the line when it comes to seeding, so Winston, Kamara and the rest of the squad need to come out to play. If they can get more production from their offense, they will have a chance to take down Tom Brady and the Bucs.
