After spending months away from the field, Dez Bryant found a new job when the New Orleans Saints signed him to a one-year contract on Wednesday. He’ll see more time of inactivity, though, after suffering a devastating Achilles injury during practice on Friday.
The injury did not just wipe out Bryant’s dreams of playing this season but also put the future of his pro career in great jeopardy. However, Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the wide receiver could heal from his injury within an eight-month time frame, meaning he could be lacing up his cleats again just in time for the training camp portion of the NFL preseason next year.
Testing on Saints’ WR Dez Bryant’s Achilles is considered “a formality”, per source. Doctors believe it is torn. Injury expected to sideline him eight months, putting him on track to potentially be ready for training camp.
Although it’s not unprecedented that an NFL player has managed to bounce back and perform well on the field after recovering from an Achilles tear injury, Bryant may find it tougher to get back, considering it took him months to find a new job in the league despite him being presumably in top physical condition.
Nevertheless, Bryant’s focus now is to have his lower-body ailment treated as soon as possible if he is to give the NFL another shot.
