Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram are apparently more than just a backfield tandem for the New Orleans Saints. They are also record-breaking buddies. As noted by Amos Morale of The Times-Picayune, the two running backs entered their names in the record books for becoming the first running back teammates to rack up at least 1,500 yards each from scrimmage.
The rookie Kamara got over the 1,500-yard mark last Sunday, albeit in a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road, as he recorded 44 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries and added 84 receiving yards on six catches. Ingram, on the other hand, had 35 rushing yards and 19 receiving yards in that game.
Kamara finished the regular season with 728 rushing yards, 826 receiving yards, and 13 total touchdowns. As for Ingram, the veteran led the Saints with 1,124 rushing yards and 12 scores to go with 416 receiving yards.
With both running backs dialed in this season, the Saints eased a big load off the shoulders of quarterback Drew Brees and the New Orleans’ air attack. This season, the Saints are fifth in the league with 129.4 rushing yards per game, which is a significant improvement from their average of 108.9 last year.
