Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints went into their Thursday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys as major favorites. They have been one of the best teams in the NFL all season long and their offense has been unstoppable. Unfortunately for the Saints, that trend did not continue against Dallas.
When everything was said and done, the Cowboys were able to come away with a huge 13-10 upset victory.
Following the loss, Brees talked about the reasons that his team was unable to come away with a win. In a quote shared by Pro Football Talk, Brees credited the Cowboys' defense and also took some of the blame himself.

We got some opportunities to capitalize on some plays early and we didn’t. First drive I knew we got a couple of things going. So, starting off the game with two – three and outs, that’s not how you want to start out the game. On the other side they were able to put together some decent drives as an offense. We are thinking complimentary football. Let’s put together another drive, let’s keep our defense off the field. Let’s control the game, the clock, the ball. It just felt like we never did that as an offense like we’ve done this year.”
New Orleans was only able to put up 176 yards of total offense. That number is much lower than what the Saints have been doing all season long.
Dallas is now looking like a team to watch in the NFC. They have taken hold of the NFC East lead and are not showing signs of slowing down. Ever since the trade to bring in Amari Cooper, the Cowboys have been playing much better offensively and their defense has been picking things up as well.
All of that being said, this win was a huge statement game for the Cowboys. New Orleans will be just fine, but this did show some holes in their armor that other teams will try to take advantage of moving forward.
