The New Orleans Saints had been without star wideout Michael Thomas for their previous three games due to a nagging ankle injury. However, Thomas then remained on the sidelines for their Week 5 tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers due to a suspension stemming from a heated altercation with Saints cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson in practice.

Without Thomas in action, the Saints found themselves down 17 points in the second quarter, but the squad still managed to pull off a 30-27 nail-biting victory against the Chargers in an overtime thriller. The win now puts them in first place in the NFC South with a 3-2 record.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees spoke regarding the situation and is confident that his teammates will be able to put the issue behind them moving forward:

“I’ve spoken with Mike,” he said, via Luke Johnson of NOLA.com. “Mike and I talk a lot, both personally in the locker room, by text message — we’re always communicating. So at the end of the day, Mike has been part of this team, he’s going to be a big part of this team moving forward.

“We had an incident and Sean addressed it and many of the leaders have spoken with Mike as well. We’re going to be all good.”

Thomas has only appeared in the Saints' season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, tallying a meager output of 17 receiving yards on three receptions before he missed the team's succeeding games.

The Saints will be having their bye in Week 6 of the season, and they are expected to have their WR1 ready come their Week 7 encounter against the Carolina Panthers.
