New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees is nearing a major career milestone being just 201 yards away from passing Peyton Manning for the all-time passing yard mark.

It is something that has hovered over the team in the first few weeks of the season that has only grown more louder the closer it has approached. With that in mind, Brees has elected push away all the light from this personal accolade to show his appreciation for the numerous teammates that has had throughout his illustrious career, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.

“It speaks to the longevity. And it says a lot about the teams I've been on, the coaches, the teammates, the players. Everyone has a hand in this, and I hope they know that,” said Brees, who told one of his classic stories about how he remembers playing in Miami during the preseason as a rookie in 2001 and looking up at all of Dan Marino's numbers on the ring of honor and marveling at them.

“At the time I was just hoping to solidify the backup position, and eventually maybe one day become a starter,” Brees said. “So to be sitting here 18 years later in striking distance … it's just kind of mind-boggling.”

Although Brees is showing his humility with this huge career mark laying just ahead of him, he has proven throughout his career that he is a generational quarterback. Brees' ability on the field that has proven for nearly two decades behind his pinpoint accuracy and ability to raise the level of play of his teammates around that has truly taken off since he joined the Saints.

The 39-year-old has continued to play at an elite level despite being in his 18th season as he has thrown for 1,295 passing yards on a 75.8 percent completion rate with eight touchdown passes to zero interceptions while holding a 115.3 passer rating. There has yet to be a notable drop off his ability on the field or his production, which speaks to his work ethic and dedication to his craft.

This is just a matter of time before he passes that milestone that will add yet another notch of his belt in what has been a bonafide Hall of Fame NFL career.
