Former NFL running back Pierre Thomas thinks that Drew Brees could’ve excelled in an entirely different sport had the quarterback chose to shoot hoops instead of throwing touchdown bombs downfield.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Thomas gushed over Brees’ basketball skills.

“He can play some basketball — he's got some skills,” Thomas tells TMZ Sports … “I used to call him White Chocolate.”

Thomas must not be aware that the White Chocolate moniker is already taken, so he can’t just go on interviews using former Sacramento Kings guard Jason Williams’ nickname when referring to Drew Brees.

Also, Thomas is probably confusing Brees for former Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, whose talent on the hardwood is unquestioned. Graham played college basketball for the Miami Hurricanes before getting drafted by New Orleans back in 2010.

Still, Pierre Thomas seemed determined to spread the news that Brees could have had a future in basketball despite the signal-caller standing just six-foot tall and the absence of any strong video evidence that could support his claim.

“Football is not the only gift that man has,” Thomas says … “They got that movie ‘White Man Can't Jump,' but no, he can jump!”

Speaking of quarterbacks who can play basketball, Seattle Seahawks star Russell Wilson and former Dallas Cowboys gunslinger Tony Romo both at least have highlight clips showing some of their hoops prowess.

In any case, it’s clearly a good thing for the people of New Orleans that Brees chose to play football.
