Former New Orleans Saints center Max Unger retired back in 2018. Ever since his post-football life started, he decided to switch to a new lifestyle.

The former Oregon Duck shared with Rod Walker of NOLA.com:

“Weight loss was the first priority,” Unger said. “It was a good thing to focus on right out of the gate. It's another thing to obsess over. It's kind of an easy transition.”

“You start playing offensive line in the NFL past the age of 30, it's going to be tough,” Unger said. “Towards the end of my career, it was time to call it quits. It felt like my body was almost to the end of being able to do it. It was time. I'm feeling better.”

He dropped from a whoping 305 pounds down to around 240 pounds, losing more than 60 pounds in the process. He also returned to his hometown of Hawaii to enjoy retirement and help his dad on their family ranch.

On the field, Unger had a productive career that spanned 10 seasons. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 49th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was also a three-time Pro Bowler and a member of the first-time All-Pro back in 2012. He contributed to the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl XLVIII back in 2013.

Max Unger finished his career after four years with the Saints and walked away from the game of football in March of 2018. He had been a reliable option throughout his career, as he started and played in all 130 games of his career.

But weight loss is Max Unger's new challenge, and looks like he's still winning.
