The New Orleans Saints had an array of hope that star wide receiver Michael Thomas could return at some point this season, but it appears that's not going to happen. The veteran announced on Wednesday via social media that rehab hasn't gone to plan and he will miss the remainder of the campaign:

Truly an unfortunate blow for Thomas and the Saints. As noted, he suffered an ankle injury last season then spent the offseason recovering. However, Thomas reportedly refused to speak to the organization throughout the summer, which evidently prolonged his rehabilitation period. Now, the wideout has suffered a setback.

The absence of Thomas has been felt, though. The Saints are ninth in rushing yards thanks to superstar Alvin Kamara, but they're 31st in the NFL in passing. Kamara has four receiving touchdowns on his own. Ultimately, the team will be hoping Thomas can get healthy and return to his brilliance in 2022. He certainly sounds poised to do so after a lengthy period away from the field.
