According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas' availability for their Week 8 showdown against the Chicago Bears is in serious jeopardy. This comes after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain on his injured hamstring.
This is a new injury on the part of the 27-year old. Thomas has already missed New Orleans' last four games since he went down with a high grade ankle sprain in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has already been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Carolina Panthers.
The three-time Pro-Bowler was supposedly ready to hit the field by either Week 5 or Week 6 as his bum ankle was on reportedly on its way to fully healing. However, the team imposed disciplinary benching on him following a practice skirmish with C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Thus, this forced him to miss their Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Now, it seems like his absence will extend following another injury setback.
With Thomas likely ruled out until Week 8, the Saints will continue to be without their top two wide receivers for the next couple of weeks. Emmanuel Sanders tested positive for the coronavirus and will undergo quarantine protocols as he remains on the COVID-19/reserve list.
Thomas has also been the subject of trade rumors as the November 3 deadline nears. Some even suggested the Saints are purposely trying to keep their star wide receiver on the sidelines to preserve his trade value and not aggravate any further injury. However, New Orleans coach Sean Payton disputed the hearsay personally on his Twitter account, turning the volume down on the trade chatter involving the former Ohio State standout.
