New Orleans Saints star receiver Michael Thomas has been placed on the injured reserve list and will miss the final three games of the regular season due to a lingering ankle injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
However, despite being placed on the injured reserve list, the Saints expect Thomas to be 100% healthy for the start of the playoffs. The Saints have already clinched a spot in the postseason and could win the division with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Thomas, who has only played in seven games this season, originally suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That high ankle sprain injury caused Thomas to miss three games. He then suffered a hamstring injury during practice that sidelined him for two more weeks.
Nevertheless, even though Thomas will be missing the final three regular-season games, Saints head coach Sean Payton is still proud of him for fighting through adversity this season.
“I'm proud of him because I know it's been a grind working back,” Saints coach Sean Payton said last week. “He's still trying to get to 100%. Obviously the injury he had was significant. But, man, he's come up with some big plays here. And for a quarterback new in the lineup, to have that target and someone who's gonna come down with the ball, make plays, that's a big deal.”
The Saints will be seeking to win the NFC South on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
