New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton took a victory lap after the NFL voted to allow pass interference calls to be challenged moving forward.

This rule change comes just a couple months after there was a blatant pass interference call against Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman was missed during the NFC Championship Game. If it was called the Saints would have probably been in the Super Bowl instead of the Rams and next year if the same play happens, the refs can go back and make the right call.

31 of the 32 NFL teams voted yes for the new rule on a one year trial basis to see how it works. The only team to vote against it was the Cincinnati Bengals.

“It felt like we had to go around the block twice and then we arrived at the right address,” Payton said at the start of his victory lap via SI.com.

Payton also points out that this doesn't solve all penalty calls, but it's a step in the right direction, and if the league decides more changes need to happen, they can go down that road later.

“The group felt like, let’s put our feet in front of us here, and obviously down the road, if we feel it’s necessary, to look at the expansion of this,” Payton said.

It will be interesting to see how this new rule change works out. There is the concern that this rule change could slow down the game, but the challenge system stays the same.

Each team gets two challenges to start, and if they are correct with each of the first two, they get one more challenge.
