A quick pass from Drew Brees in the third quarter of the NFC Championship Game added yet another accomplishment to Taysom Hill's season resume. Hill has a completed pass, a rushing attempt, a reception, a touchdown reception, a rushing touchdown, a tackle, a fumble, an interception thrown, a blocked punt, a kickoff return, a punt return, and a converted fake punt run.
Hill is technically Drew Brees' backup quarterback for the Saints, but the 28-year-old wears many different hats for New Orleans. In his second season in the NFL, Hill has made an appearance in all of the Saints' games this year in one manner or another.
He ended the 2018 regular season with 64 yards on 3-of-7 passing. He ran for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 37 attempts. He had four receiving yards on three receptions, and on special teams, he had one punt return, 348 yards on 14 kickoff returns, six total tackles, one blocked punt and two converted fake punts for first downs, one rush, and one pass.
After going undrafted in 2017, Hill signed with the Green Bay Packers. He appeared in three preseason games for them, completing 14 of 20 passes, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another. Regardless, he was waived on September 2, 2017.
Hill was claimed off waivers by the Saints. He was promoted to the active roster on December 3 and appeared in a total of twelve special teams plays against the Carolina Panthers during the 2017 season. In his NFL debut, Hill recorded two tackles on the Panthers' kick returner Fozzy Whittaker.
His role has expanded from special teams player to all-around offensive weapon. If the Saints can get past the Los Angles Rams in the NFC Championship game, head coach Sean Payton is sure to cook up something special for Hill in the Super Bowl.
