Heading into Week 5 action against the Washington Redskins, the New Orlean Saints are off to a strong start to the 2018 season winning three out of the first four games played.

However, the Saints will be without one of their big-play threat wide receivers with Ted Ginn Jr. being ruled out Monday's game due to a knee injury, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.

Ted Ginn Jr. has been ruled out of Monday night's game with a knee injury, which could create more opportunity for New Orleans Saints rookie receiver Tre'Quan Smith or fourth-year pro Cameron Meredith.

There has been no clarity as to what the severity is of the injury that Ginn Jr. is dealing with as he had played in each of the first four games where he made 12 catches on 22 targets for 135 receiving yards and two touchdowns. This is an ailment that has kept him out practice throughout the week that made this decision from the Saints the reasonable choice as he hadn't been able to take the practice field.

Ginn Jr. is in his second year with the Saints as he has found a significant role in the passing game in his short time with the team. In the 2017 campaign, he notched 53 receptions on 70 targets for 787 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 15 games played. He had been off to a respectable start this year with more than 50 receiving yards in the last two games, but his production has decline notable in the last two weeks as his knee issues had limited his ability on the field.

The decision to sit him allows in to use the Week 6 bye to gain more rest to potentially be ready to return in Week 7 on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. In his absence, it should see rookie Tre-Quan Smith and fourth-year wideout Cameron Meredith each take advantage of that added playing time.
