Two days after signing a contract with the New Orleans Saints that breathed life into his NFL career, Dez Bryant got victimized by a cruel twist of fate. Bryant suffered a season-ending Achilles tear on Friday during practice, as reported by Albert Breer of MMQB.com.

Saints WR Dez Bryant popped his Achilles running a route on the scout team during a defensive period, towards the end of practice, I'm told. Tough scene, teammates had to finish the work out after he was helped off the field.

The Saints contacted the 30-year-old wide receiver and inked him to a one-year deal on Wednesday in hopes of adding depth to their receiving corps. Bryant was supposed to bolster the Saints’ passing attack that has the prolific Drew Brees running the show and the talented Micheal Thomas on top of the food chain downfield but is also banged up with both Cameron Meredith and Ted Ginn on injured reserve.

Dez Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowler, was no longer the star he used to be when he was still with the Dallas Cowboys at the time of his signing with the Saints but could have been a force to reckon with as part of New Orleans’ high-octane offense.

Bryant was released by the Cowboys back in March and spent most of his time since waiting and looking for an NFL job. He has racked up 7,459 receiving yards and 73 touchdown grabs on 531 receptions across 113 games played in his NFL career.
