Michael Thomas hasn't been able to suit up for the New Orleans Saints since Week 1, leading some to believe his future with the team is in jeopardy. Despite the rumors surrounding his status with the organization, the Saints are adamant about not trading Thomas, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Back in Week 1, the Saints would defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tom Brady's debut with his new team. However, during New Orleans' impressive win, Thomas would suffer a high-ankle sprain.
As a result, Thomas would miss the next three games, with him poised to return to the team in Week 5 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he would be involved in an altercation in practice with teammates, prompting the Saints to suspend him for a game.
To make matters worse, following his one-game suspension, Thomas has sustained a nagging hamstring injury. The NFL's leading wide receiver is set to miss his sixth consecutive game on Sunday versus the Chicago Bears.
Seeing that New Orleans has a dire cap situation, some believe that the Saints could move Thomas ahead of the trade deadline. Thomas signed a five-year, $96.25 million deal last year, including $60.5 million in guaranteed money.
But if the Saints were to trade Thomas, he would count $20 million in dead cap money in 2021. New Orleans has the worst cap situation in 2021, currently standing at over $79 million in the salary cap next season.
Even though some are questioning whether or not Thomas could be traded, it appears the Saints have made it clear he's not available.
