The New York Jets are not exactly having the 2019 season they were hoping for. Even if expectations were not that high, they were definitely higher than their 1-7 start.
Coming off a humiliating loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Jets now find themselves going up against a fellow New York team, the New York Giants.
The Jets are probably not going to turn their season around with a win here. However, each win the rest of the way could be important for the team moving forward.
With that in mind, how do the Jets beat the Giants? Here are four reasons they might.
Le'Veon Bell Resurgence
Le'Veon Bell's first season with the Jets has not gone to plan. The running back is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry through eight games. His season-high for rushing yards in a game is only 70 and he's had just one game with an average yard per carry of over 4.0.
All that being said, Bell had arguably his best game of the season in Week 9. He ran for 66 yards on 17 carries (second-highest YPC of the year with 3.9). Meanwhile, he added on eight receptions for 55 yards.
The Giants are allowing 127.9 rushing yards a game. With that in mind, this is definitely a team that the Jets can attack with the run pretty heavily. If they get Bell going, that would make things a lot more interesting.
If they can get Bell to look like his old self, things wouldn't just be interesting, they'd actually be fun for the Jets.
Daniel Jones Turnover Problems
Overall, Daniel Jones has had a solid rookie season. He has definitely had a lot of positives, but there are growing pains as well.
For Jones, the main growing pain has been all about the turnovers. In eight games he has 11 touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns. However, he also has eight interceptions and eight more fumbles.
Those turnovers have been the demise of the Giants on a number of occasions. They can be absolute momentum killers. That's a shame because when Jones is on, he looks fantastic. But the turnovers can change the game with the snap of a finger.
Jones has been fantastic at times, and the Jets' defense has not exactly been great at creating turnovers. However, the fumbles and interceptions come in bunches, and if they start in Week 10 it could sway the game for the Jets.
Is Saquon Barkley Still Hurt?
Saquon Barkley was putting up ridiculous numbers to start the year. Through two games, the Giants' running back was averaging 7.8 yards per carry. He got hurt in the third game, though. In that game, he had 10 yards on eight carries (1.3 yards per carry). Since he returned in Week 7, the numbers haven't been the same.
Article Continues BelowBarkley has rushed for an average of 4.0, 3.4 and 2.0 yards per carry in each of his three games this season. He has just one rushing touchdown and only one carry of more than 13 yards.
Barkley is so good that even with the recent poor performances, you have to worry about him. At any moment, the running back could spring a massive run or refuse to go down. He's one of the few players that you would truly not be surprised if he ran for 200 yards in any random game.
Then again, that's when he's healthy. And you have to ask, is he completely healthy? Just by looking at the numbers, it's pretty obvious that Barkley has not been the same since he got hurt. Is it just a coincidence? Or is he trying to play through an injury?
If Barkley is still hurt, the Jets will get a tamer running back going up against them. That gives them a better chance.
Offense Showing Life

The Jets offense hit an all-time low in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. In that game, they scored zero points. New York picked up just 154 yards of total offense and had six turnovers compared to 12 first downs.
Since then, they've looked moderately better though. As mentioned already, Bell might have had his best game of the year in Week 9
Jamison Crowder is right there with him. The wide receiver had eight receptions (second-highest of the year) for 83 yards (third-highest of the year) and scored his first touchdown of the season in Week 9.
Quarterback Sam Darnold has shown signs of life as well.
Truthfully, the New England defense has made everyone look really bad this year. Still, though, that game was next-level bad for the Jets and they needed to respond in the coming weeks.
It's clear that there is still work to be done, but they've progressed over the last two games. Now in Week 10 they're going up against another poor defense in the Giants (391.4 yards and 28.3 points per game).
With the offense looking like it at least has a pulse, maybe Week 10 is a bit of a coming-out party for them. A confidence builder.
