The New York Jets were manhandled by the New England Patriots defense during their Week 7 duel. The defense managed to stop Sam Darnold and the Jets offense to the point that Darnold unleashed a memorable soundbite.
He claimed during the game that he felt like he was “seeing ghosts” as they struggled to get anything going on offense. While his comments were fair game for the press due to him being wired with a microphone, people in the Jets organization did not appreciate the publicization of the moment.
Jets head coach Adam Gase was mad with the way his comments have been spun. He went to the media and expressed his frustrations with them.

Gase acknowledged it's “part of the deal,” coaches and players being miked for prime-time games, but he added: “Obviously, you never anticipate something like that happening. The fact that it did, it gives us pause to really cooperate anymore because I don't know how we can allow our franchise quarterback to be put out there like that.”
The Jets are currently 1-5 for the season, and it's not wrong to count them out for any kind of playoff contention. However, the team is trying to gather the troops and slowly–but surely–build a winning culture in team. The publicization of Darnold's comments definitely hit on the team's attempts to build team-wide confidence.
Of course, the media and the press are hopeful that the team's important stars remain wired up. However, this moment may have changed the team's stance forever.
