After getting traded to the New York Jets on Tuesday, star wideout Davante Adams reworked his contract to lower his 2024 salary cap number to $3.21 million and made the next two years voidable. The former Las Vegas Raider is guaranteed to be in New York for the rest of this season.

Adams expressed his thoughts on potentially staying longer, though, via SNY's Connor Hughes.

“I hope so. That’s the plan.”

The Raiders traded Adams to the Jets following weeks of drama and speculation that ultimately led to him asking out of Las Vegas. The six-time Pro Bowler hasn't played since Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, but practiced fully for New York on Wednesday.

The Jets converted Adams' remaining 2024 base salary into a signing bonus to save cap room. The Raiders will pay none of it.

However, there's a time limit under the current arrangement, via NBC Sports' Mike Florio.

“The new deal does not alter his $35.64 million salary in 2025 and 2026. Unless the Jets and Adams work out something new after the season, he’ll be released at the start of the new league year, in March,” Florio said. “For now, then, it’s a part-year rental by the Jets, with no guarantee he’ll stick around next year. In fact, to get released and to become a free agent for 2025, Adams simply needs to do nothing at all.”

It's no secret that Rodgers and Adams missed each other. The played together on the Green Bay Packers from 2014-21, helping Adams establish himself as a top-flight receiver. The Fresno State alum led the NFL in touchdown catches in 2020 and receiving yards in '21.

With New York at 2-4, it doesn't have much time left to save its season. The 40-year-old Rodgers is past his prime, but still could have enough magic left to turn things around now that his old friend is back with him.
