ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay cooked up a boiling hot take on Thursday when drawing comparisons between Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and New York Jets gunslinger Sam Darnold.
During an appearance on ESPN's âFirst Draftâ podcast, McShay inexplicably argued that acquiring the Texans franchise quarterback would only signify a minor upgrade for the New York Jets over their still-unproven QB.
âBradford [he means Darnold] and Watson, to me, it just doesn't make sense,â McShay said about a trade, via The Jet Press. âI don't think you're getting a huge upgrade. If I'm the Jets sitting at No. 2, I'm saying, âYou know what, âI love DeShaun, he's a really good player, I might even think he's slightly better than Sam. But if Sam's content and Sam wants to help us build this thingâŠ'â
Apparently, McShay has been living in an alternate reality for the past three yearsâor, to be generous, maybe he's solely watched college football. After referring to Sam Darnold as Sam Bradford, the draft analyst then seems to deliver his take as if it would be bold for the Jets to think that the 26-year-old Watson might be a tad better than Darnold at this stage of their respective careers.

Deshaun Watson, of course, has emerged as one of the best players in football, while the 23-year-old Darnold is coming off the worst season for any regular starter in the league.
The disgruntled Texans starter has officially requested a trade, and the Jets and Watson reportedly have a mutual interest in one another. New York has a cabinet of future draft picks to offer Houston, and Watson would likely drop his no-trade clause for a move to the Big Apple.
A note to Joe Douglas from a Jets fan, which he does not need to hear: do not listen to Todd McShay.
