NFL uniforms are in the midst of a major throwback wave for the 2023 season. The New York Jets are joining in with a new uniform look inspired by its “New York Sack Exchange” era.

The Jets, who have a renewed buzz after acquiring Aaron Rodgers, revealed their new uniforms inspired by the look they donned in the 1980s.

The Jets released an announcement video starring Rodgers and Sauce Gardner to showcase the new threads. The white uniforms feature green stripes, numbers, collars and socks. The helmets feature a white facemask and the old “Jets” wordmark logo that includes the shape of a jet wing.

New York used this uniform design from 1978 to 1989 before updating it in the 1990s and then transitioning to a new look in 1998. The Jets' fearsome defensive line that they assembled during those years — which featured All-Pros Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko and was rounded out by Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam — earned the “New York Sack Exchange” nickname for their pass-rushing brilliance.

The Jets join the Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks as the latest team to reveal a new throwback look. The Philadelphia Eagles plan to do the same at some point before the season.

The Jets will wear their Legacy uniforms in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. With both games featuring an opponent that is contending for the Super Bowl, New York is taking the opportunity to flaunt its new threads as it looks to prove that this era of Jets football will be a successful one.
