New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell made it clear that he would like to play in the preseason, but he didn't get his wish with Adam Gase announcing that Bell wouldn't play until the regular season started. Bell still wants to get used to the contact that comes in-game action so he has made it clear that he would like some of his teammates to start being a little rougher during practice.

“Go for the ball, things like that, just so I can get prepared,” Bell said Wednesday via ESPN.com.

Bell doesn't want any dirty hits that go low, but he thinks a couple of hits to his upper body will help him get ready for the regular season.

“I try to do that intentionally, just so I can feel it,” he said. “A lot of times you'll start seeing guys get a little frustrated and they'll try to hit me back — and that's what I need. They won't take me to the ground and they won't go for my legs. Hitting me up top, things like that, I need all that.”

Bell sat out all of last season when he was still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so it could still take a little while on the regular season kicks off to get into the swing of things. He hopes a few hits here and there during practice will speed up that process.

“I know once I get to the game it's going to be a little different, but that's something I'll adjust to,” he said. “I've been playing football my whole life.”
