The New York Jets are signing former undrafted prospect Keelan Cole on a 1-year, $5.5 million contract according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Cole, a wide receiver, spent four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he tallied a total of 2,242 receiving yards.

The 27-year-old Keelan Cole is coming off a year where he recorded 55 catches for 642 yards and five touchdowns. He was huge for the Jaguars when he signed with them in 2017 where he instantly appeared in 16 games and hauled a career high of 784 receiving yards in his rookie career.

Last season, Keelan Cole also recorded his career high of touchdowns and targets last season with five and 88 respectively.

The Jets, who finished fourth place in the AFC East last season with the record of 2-14, had over $36 million in cap space after signing defensive end Carl Lawson. The good news for the Jets is that they still have $31 million left to spend after offering Keelan Cole a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

Keelan Cole will join an improved Jets roster featuring Corey Davis, who inked his contract for the team this week. The Jets are not done making moves as they are reportedly courting another wide receiver in Juju Smith-Schuster. Moreover, the Jets are looking better on defense with the addition of Lawson to pair with interior defensive line of Quinenn Williams and Foley Fatukasi—a defense that could potentially succeed off power in the trenches.

As for the offensive side of things, Keelan Cole could make an impact for the Jets right away. He’s also a punt returner and part time kick as he took one punt 91 yards for a touchdown last season.

In his career, Keelan Cole is averaging 27 yards on eight kick returns. His potential as both a receiver and kick returner gives the Jets the belief that they are getting a high-upside performer who can blossom in the right situation.
