The New York Jets have a big season coming up. 2019 is the first year of the Adam Gase era, and New York needs to build on the little bit of buzz that they've built.

The team realizes they need to continue to add weapons around Sam Darnold to further his development into a franchise quarterback.

As such, they're doing their due diligence on this year's crop of receivers in the draft. To that end, the team is hosting Baylor wide receiver Jalen Hurd for a visit today, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hurd is a fun prospect for a lot of reasons, and has had a very unique arc. He started his career with Tennessee, where he spent his first three college years as a running back. He then transferred to Baylor, and after sitting out the 2017 season made the transition to receiver last year.

He had a pretty spectacular season for his first time playing receiver, hauling in 69 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball 48 times for 209 yards and three more touchdowns.

The Jets have made some splashes already this offseason, none bigger than signing Le'Veon Bell. With Bell in the fold, they already have one player who can carry and catch the ball at an elite level.

With his skill set, Hurd could be quite the complement to Bell, and it's not surprising the Jets are interested.

Given his versatility and the potential he's shown in such a short time, Hurd could be a steal in the middle rounds, where he's currently projected by most analysts to be drafted.
