The New York Jets offense struggled in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, and center Ryan Kalil knows a big reason was because of the offensive line.

One of the significant issues with the offensive line is they haven't had a ton of time to work together. Kalil came out retirement on August 1 to sign with the Jets, and he didn't play in any of the preseason games.

Kalil told the media on Monday via Jets Wire that a big reason the Jets offensive line struggled was his lack of communication.

Coach Adam Gase also wasn't happy with the way the offensive line played but did say he had hope that they would get better.

“I would say that some of it was the O-line,” Gase said via CBS New York, “but I would say if we read the coverages correctly with the receivers, some of that isn’t a problem.”

The hope is that going forward as the offensive line is working together more, they should improve and do a better job of keeping Sam Darnold upright. Gase knows that everyone was hurt by their performance in Week 1, and they don't want it to happen again.

“I see the look in these guys’ eyes,” Gase said, “the way that they felt after the game, the way they came in here today, the way they have been working so far today as far as the run and lift and their meetings. That one stung everybody.”

There are higher expectations for the offense this year, and if they want to live up to them, it all starts with the offensive line play.
