The New York Jets remain primed for a big offseason while one of the team's glaring needs is at the tight end position. However, it might be a familiar face that ultimately aids the team's passing attack, as free agent tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins seems to be in play for New York, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.
“There’s interest from the Jets in a reunion with tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins,” writes Hughes. “The 26-year-old, whom the Bucs drafted in the second round in 2014, spent two years with the Jets before signing with the Jaguars last offseason. He caught 50 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns in 2017. The Jets had interest in re-signing Seferian-Jenkins last offseason, but wouldn’t match Jacksonville’s two-year, $10 million offer. The Jaguars declined the second year of Seferian-Jenkins’ contract last month, which is why he’s a free agent.”
The Jets remain in play for the services of former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell as well, which would certainly upgrade the team's offensive attack right off the bat. It remains to be seen, though, as to whether the Jets look to add a big name right away or add pieces that could complement a player at the level of Bell.
The Jets have also been linked to several other players early on this offseason. A list that includes Cole Beasley, Donte Moncrief, Danny Amendola and Tevin Coleman.
If New York is going to restore order in East Rutherford sooner rather than later, the 2019 offseason will serve as a vital time for the franchise.
