The New York Jets have liked what they’ve seen from quarterback Teddy Bridgewater thus far. He was supposedly one of the team’s standout performers during the first week of OTAs, which is improving his stock to the point that the Jets may decide to cash in on him in a trade before the start of the season, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

When they made a one-year, low-cost investment in Bridgewater, they did so with the belief that he could be flipped for a draft pick under the right circumstances. That's still on the table; his trade value is trending upward.

After finally playing late last year for the first time since his serious knee injury in 2016, the Jets signed Bridgewater on a one-year deal this offseason as part of the team’s major shakeup at the quarterback position. They also brought in veteran Josh McCown and drafted Sam Darnold to be their presumptive franchise quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick.

They have gotten rid of last year’s holdovers-Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg-which has left McCown, Bridgewater and Darnold battling for the starting job.

While the Jets would prefer Darnold to take over at quarterback as soon as possible, Bridgewater could still be in line to start in Week 1 if he outplays McCown and Darnold doesn’t prove he’s ready to start just yet.

But if both McCown and Darnold perform well enough, the Jets could look to move Bridgewater while he remains healthy and his value is high instead of keeping him around as a backup.
