To everyone's surprise, long-time New Orleans Saints head coach and future Hall-Of-Famer Sean Payton has decided to step down as the lead man in the Big Easy. After a long and successful tenure that saw him win this team a Super Bowl and make several deep postseason runs, Payton's time with the organization has sadly come to an end. With his departure comes the start of a new chapter in New Orleans and the opportunity to build a new culture.

There's definitely no shortage of candidates out there and with the Saints' track record of success as an organization, there definitely won't be any shortage of candidates showing interest. So without further interruption, let's now take a look at the three best candidates to become the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

Saints Coaching Candidates

Todd Bowles

He's currently the architect of Tampa Bay's smash mouth defense and has found a ton of success as the Buccaneers defensive coordinator over the past few seasons. In New Orleans, Todd Bowles would be able to make a seamless transition as their new head coach while perfectly maximizing the skillsets of their star-studded defense.

Not to mention that his move across the NFC South would also give the Saints a competitive advantage as they'd be able to lockdown the Bucs' high-powered offense and take full advantage of Bowles' knowledge of their playbook. If the Saints want to get back to the playoffs next season and regain the division crown, then bringing on Bowles as their next head coach is an absolute must.

Leslie Frazier

Under the direction of Leslie Frazier, the Buffalo Bills boasted the top defensive unit in every major statistical category this year and in New Orleans he'd definitely be able to replicate this success. With talents like Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, Marshon Lattimore, Malcolm Jenkins, and Kwon Alexander, Frazier would have plenty of depth and talent to work with. Plus with Frazier's previous coaching experience and winning mentality this team really could go places. As another defensive coordinator with plenty of suitors, Frazier could really make his mark in New Orleans.

Eric Bieniemy

As the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, Eric Bieniemy has reeled in an exciting new style of play on offense with his innovative approach to the game. The Chiefs' explosive up-tempo offense has been decimating defenses routinely over the past few seasons and still is to this day.

On the Saints, Bieniemy would be able to work with utilize the versatile skillsets of Taysom Hill, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas while elevating the Saints' offense to new heights and bring them back to playoff relevance. If the team decides not to make Taysom Hill their starting quarterback next year then this could open up the possibility of pursuing another mobile gunslinger who could lead the Saints back to the promised land.

Both Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers might be seeking a change of scenery ahead of next season and with the Saints uncertainty at the quarterback spot, this would be an exciting new opportunity for them to pursue. Wilson or Rodgers running a fast-paced pass heavy offense under Bieniemy has the inner workings of a Super Bowl champion and if the Saints want to shake things up then requesting an interview with Eric Bieniemy would be in their best interest.
