The Indianapolis Colts made a massive move this offseason, trading for former NFL MVP Matt Ryan. USA Today's Sports Seriously was joined by Colts running back Nyheim Hines. Hines spoke about his perceptions of Ryan thus far with the Colts, including a hilarious anecdote after he learned how old the quarterback was.

“His birthday was about two or three weeks ago and I remember asking him ‘how old are you' and he's like ‘I'm 37. I was like, dang I thought you were older. Philip was like 39, I thought he was that age.”
The Philip that Hines was referring to was former Colts QB Philip Rivers. He joined the Colts for his 18th and final season in 2020, leading Indianapolis to the playoffs. Following his retirement, the Colts signed Carson Wentz last season. Despite a solid regular season, Wentz struggled down the stretch and Indianapolis missed the playoffs.
Article Continues BelowThat led the Colts to trade for the 2016 league MVP. Ryan nearly led the Atlanta Falcons to a Super Bowl title, if not for an insane 28-3 comeback by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
The Colts have been searching for the quarterback that can get them back to the Super Bowl ever since Peyton Manning left for Denver nearly 10 years ago. Rivers and Wentz did not work out the way the franchise had hoped.
Hines also relayed how impressed he has been with Ryan thus far. “He has control of the offense already even though he doesn't know everything. He's been super accurate. It's been a pleasure working with him. He makes everything easy.”
Ryan is coming off of one of the worst statistical years of his career. But that likely had as much to do with the team around him in Atlanta. The Colts are loaded defensively and Jonathan Taylor might be the best running back he's ever played with. Indianapolis is one of the dark horses to come out of the AFC this season.
