The Dallas Cowboys ended their season in dominant fashion, beating the Washington Redskins with an incredible final score of 47-16. However, even that result cannot secure Jason Garrett's tenure with the Cowboys as his future is still up in the air.
Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk talked to Garrett after the match and asked him about his chances of keeping the job that he's had for a decade. He said that in spite of the solid display his Cowboys put out, there's still no job security for him as he failed to bring the team to the playoffs.
“I have no idea,” Garrett answered when asked if he expected to return. “. . .I want to be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys. We will see what happens.”
The biggest achievement Garrett has done in his tenure as Cowboys head coach is to bring the team to the Division round of the playoffs three times. He is yet to break through to the NFC Championship Game in spite of the quality of talent he has on the Cowboys roster.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is also hesitant to answer whether Garrett will return, but he did say that he's keeping the door open for Garrett.
“Well, I don’t know if I would look at it like that. What I wouldn’t do, in anything I’m saying here tonight, is shut any door,” Jones said. “I really want to make sure I’m clear about that and communicate that: There’s no door shut here tonight. None, anywhere, is shut. This is not what that is about shutting a door of an individual. I’m not doing that here.”
Whether Garrett remains head coach of the Cowboys will become known in the coming months.
