New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is the first NFL figure to test positive for coronavirus. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement calling everyone to follow the advice from medical experts on how to contain the virus' spread.

Goodell noted that their concern right now is Payton's recovery.

Via Twitter, the coach shared that he's doing good and is not feeling any symptoms of COVID-19. It should be noted that the virus is asymptomatic in nature. That means that those who are infected may not necessarily exhibit symptoms but can still spread it.

Sean Payton Has Message About Coronavirus

Reports reveal that the 56-year-old didn't feel too good this Sunday which triggered him to take the test on Monday. He received the results on Thursday. Payton shared that he only felt fatigued, unlike other patients who need a ventilator to assist them in breathing. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, he called on the public to listen to the advice of the medical experts.

“This is not just about social distancing. It's shutting down here for a week to two weeks. If people understand the curve, and understand the bump, we can easily work together as a country to reduce it. Take a minute to understand what the experts are saying. It's not complicated to do what they're asking of us. Just that type of small investment by every one of us will have a dramatic impact.”

“I was fortunate to be in the minority, without the serious side effects that some have. I'm lucky. Younger people feel like they can handle this, but they can be a carrier to someone who can't handle it. So we all need to do our part. It's important for every one of us to do our part.”

The coronavirus has not only paralyzed all sports leagues, but the entire world. Now, there's a growing concerted effort by the world to flatten the curve.
