Adrian Peterson is set to begin the next chapter of his career after inking a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins earlier this week.
Although Peterson hasn't had much time to adjust to his new surroundings or fully digest the playbook, he is expected to get plenty of playing time in Friday's preseason game against the Denver Broncos. According to Matthew Paras of The Washington Times, the 33-year-old has voiced his excitement for his first appearance with the Redskins where he can establish himself a primary piece of the puzzle offensively.
“I’m excited about it,” Peterson said about his upcoming debut with the Redskins. “I feel like it will be a great opportunity to get back out there and to be a part of a great organization. A good offensive, a good defensive team.
“I’m really looking forward to what the season holds
Since joining the Redskins, Peterson has been quite vocal about his aspirations with the team hoping to not only be a factor offensively but also vie for the starting job out of the gate. This will be a tough hill to climb given the competition at the position, but Friday's game could help him get a strong start toward reaching that goal as it will show how much he has left in the tank.
It is also a crucial game because Peterson's one-year deal is on a non-guaranteed contract that means that the Redskins could part ways with him prior to the start of the season if desired. There is plenty of motivation for him to prove that can still be a productive running back at this stage of his career to keep his time in the NFL going forward.
All of this sets the stage for Peterson to have a prime opportunity in front of him to re-establish himself as a viable running back in the league.
