The Washington Redskins quarterback situation continues to be an interesting one. Not only are Washington fans patiently waiting to see if rookie Dwayne Haskins will get the opportunity to play, but more rumors are starting to pop up that point to head coach Jay Gruden not allowing him the chance to.
As more drama continues to stir, running back Chris Thompson took to social media to share his views.
Can I say something? Yes I can. I’ve been in the league a couple years, like 6 or 7. I’ve never heard of a backup QB taking team reps during the regular season unless he’s playing. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion about everything but don’t just start making up stuff. https://t.co/ueANM3FaoH

After a tweet (via Redskins Wire) from WUSA9’s Darren M. Haynes reported that some within Washington’s organization believe Gruden isn’t helping Haskins get better by not giving him reps, the Washington running back replied. Quoting the tweet, Thompson said that in his years of playing, he has never heard of a backup quarterback taking team reps in the regular season.
While many seem to think that Haskins is being held back, it seems as if Thompson is clearing the air on how things work. It is a bit unusual to see backups taking first-team reps during the regular season, especially considering how few practices happen in between an NFL game. Haskins isn’t the starter just yet, so allowing him to take snaps from Case Keenum would likely hurt the team more than help anyone.
Regardless, it seems as if things in Washington are beginning to reach a boiling point. With Case Keenum looking shaky last week against the Chicago Bears, many are beginning to call for Haskins to get a shot. As Gruden’s seat continues to get hotter, only time will tell if he’s going to make the switch to Haskins in an effort to try and shake things up.
