Dwayne Haskins is now a pro football player, but a part of him might relish one 2019 NFL game more than others — and it's not because of his identity as a Washington Redskin.
Rivalries are a major part of the college sports scene, and there is no greater rivalry in college football than Michigan and Ohio State. With the teams meeting constantly in the regular season and developing a legitimate dislike of each other, the Washington Redskins' newest quarterback might be looking forward to one of his 2019 games.
Assuming that the newly drafted quarterback is playing by then, the Week 14 meeting between the Redskins and Green Bay Packers would give Haskins a chance to face a former rival in Rashan Gary. With the Michigan linebacker being drafted by the Packers, it’ll allow both players to once again meet on the field.
While it would be great to see both players on the field and competing, the biggest thing standing in their ways are playing time and injuries. For Haskins, it’ll be a question of if he’s able to play well enough for Washington to keep him under center.
For Gary, it’ll be about questions regarding his potentially injured shoulder. Early in the draft process, Gary’s injured shoulder came up as news, with many thinking that it was a torn labrum. While Gary has denied the rumors, he has been practicing at the Packers' rookie mini-camp in a shoulder brace as a precaution. Still, Gary denies the rumors that he has a torn labrum, and will be good to go for the 2019 NFL season.
As both teams try to bounce back after disappointing seasons, they’ll aim to get heavy production from their first-round picks. For Washington, Haskins will need to keep the team afloat at its most important position. Gary will need to bolster a Packers pass rush that has been sorely lacking in the past.
