Running back Aaron Jones was expected to compete for the starting job for the Green Bay Packers, but he might be in the backseat now after the NFL handed down a two-game suspension on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspension is in response to an arrest last October where he was pulled over for speeding. The officer smelt marijuana coming from the car, and he admitted to smoking it. Jones took to Twitter to accept and take responsibility for the suspension and promised that it won't ever happen again.

“The NFL announced my suspension today,” Jones wrote. “I accept it, take responsibility for it, and regret the mistake I made during the 2017 season which led to my punishment. I've let down my family, teammates coaches, the Packers' front office, Packers' fans, UTEP, UTEP fans, and the communities of El Paso and Green Bay. I apologize to all impacted and promise that this will never happen again and when I touch the field again it's going to be special.”

Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges of speeding, driving without a license, and operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance in his system. He ended up pleading no contest to the operation of a motor vehicle charged and was fined $1,047.

This was the second time that Jones was arrested for driving under the influence, but the first charges were dropped after he entered a pretrial agreement.

Jones has a chance to have a long career in the league, but for that to happen, he needs to stay on the straight and narrow.
