Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis was arrested at LAX on Monday for joking that he’d smuggled a bomb into the airport, TMZ Sports reports.

Davis, 24, was at the Hawaiian Airlines ticket counter with a female companion to check into their flight to Hawaii. The attendant at the counter asked standard security questions about their luggage. Davis then turned to his companion and jokingly remarked, “Did you remember to pack the explosives?”

His female companion said, “No” and attempted to stop Davis. He tried to diffuse the situation by saying he was only kidding, but by that point, the damage had been done.

Davis was reportedly taken into custody by the police and charged with misdemeanor criminal threats. He was booked and released.

A fifth-round pick by the Packers in 2016, Davis has 33 catches for 404 receiving yards in his first 27 games in the NFL. However, he did make a mark on special teams as the team’s primary kick returner last season. He racked up 707 yards on 31 returns.

While his arrest isn’t nearly as serious as some chargers other NFL players face, it was nonetheless a pretty boneheaded move on Davis’ part. Ever since 9/11, everyone should be well aware that making bomb jokes at airports and/or airplanes is a huge no-no.

Davis likely won’t receive extra disciplinary action from the team for that relatively minor offense. However, he is likely to receive a fair bit of ribbing from his teammates in the locker room for his incredibly poor lack of judgment.
