New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft had to reverse a previous mindset in order for the National Football League to sign receiver Kenny Britt.

As you likely know by now, the Patriots signed Kenny Britt on Monday. That's a rather large deal, as it provides Tom Brady with yet another weapon, even if this one didn't exactly play well while with the Cleveland Browns. Do get him, however, Robert Kraft had to pivot on a previous decision in regards to the receiver.

We won’t be signing him,” Kraft said in early 2014, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. “That won’t happen.”

Kraft said this due to Britt's off-the-field issues he was having. It was a supposed franchise culture issue — or whatever other jargon powerful people use to avoid bringing in troubled players.

Thing is, to be fair to both Kraft and Britt, the receiver has been staying out of trouble for some time. There's actual reason for the Patriots to want to change their mind on the idea of Kenny Britt in a New England uniform.

Nevertheless, whatever the reason, it doesn't really matter. If Britt can be at least a shell of his former self, the Patriots got themselves a wickedly talented receiver for cheap. Whether or not Britt can actually help, though, remains up for debate.
