Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has played well to start the season and now enters a crucial Week 7 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. Wentz has thrown for 1,458 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions but it has only resulted in a .500 record.
A win this week will put the Eagles in a good spot to win the NFC East, but a loss would put them one game back of the Cowboys and they might be in some trouble. So will Wentz be able to lead the Eagles to victory? Let's break down three bold predictions for the Eagles quarterback versus the Cowboys.
3. Wentz throws for less than 240 yards
The Cowboys' defense has been good this year, especially through the air giving up only 238 yards per game which ranks in the top half of the league. Wentz has been strong this year but that hasn't always resulted in a lot of passing yards. In two of his last three games he has thrown for less than 200 including in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers where he threw for only 160 yards. In Week 14 last year in Dallas, Wentz only managed to throw for only 228 yards. On Sunday, here's to predicting that Wentz will finish with right around 225 yards which will lower the Cowboys' passing yards per game average.
2. Wentz continues to target Miles Sanders
Rookie running back Miles Sanders hasn't been as big of contributor in the rushing game as many predicted this year but he and Wentz have something going in the passing game.
Article Continues BelowOn the season he has 13 receptions on 18 targets for 219 yards and a score. Last week against the Minnesota Vikings, Sanders caught three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. In this game, the Eagles should continue to attack to look for Sanders and he should finish with at least 80 yards receiving.
1. Wentz can't make up for the poor Eagles defense
The Eagles' defense has not been good this year specifically against the pass. They are giving up 280.2 yards per game through the air which is 29th in the NFL. The Eagles' offense is going to score points but they are going to have trouble overcoming what their defense gives up.
This feels like a good old fashioned shootout with Wentz not making the big pass late, and the Eagles' defense failing to make the big stop.
The loss is going to drop the Eagles to below .500 which is going to make it an uphill climb for the rest of the season.
