The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off their most embarrassing loss of the 2018 NFL season after they were dismantled by the New Orleans Saints 48-7. Not surprisingly, quarterback Carson Wentz caught plenty of flak for his abysmal performance.

Even head coach Doug Pederson said afterward that his quarterback may have been ‘pressing' a bit. However, Wentz does not feel that was the case, via Jeff Kerr of 247 Sports:

“I didn’t feel like I was pressing,” Wentz said. “When we were down by what we were, we are just trying to make plays, trying to put up points. You can call that pressing, but really we are just trying to make plays, trying to fight. That led to a couple turnovers.

It is difficult to find a silver lining in games such as these. Philadelphia had been thoroughly dominated in every aspect of the game versus New Orleans. As a result, they were forced to play from a huge deficit all game which may have cause Wentz to develop a sense of urgency.

Unfortunately, the approach did not work any better for him. Wentz completed just 19-of-33 passes for 156 yards and three interceptions. His inability develop any kind of rhythm whatsoever resulted in arguably the worst game of his career. It is clear that Pederson was not pleased with how he responded towards the end.

Regardless, the Eagles have plenty of work to do if they still hope to defend their title. The abysmal state of the NFC East has given essentially every team a chance to win the division down the final stretch of the season.
