Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is not expected to practice this week after missing the team's Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

There has been plenty of speculation as to if or when Wentz could return this season due to what seems like a pretty significant back injury, and it looks like Philly fans shouldn't expect him back under center in the near future.

That's because head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday that Wentz's practice availability will be exactly what it was a week ago, according to Jeff McLane of Philly.com.

From McLane:

Asked how much Carson Wentz will do this week at practice, Doug Pederson said, “Same as last week.” (Me: Which was nothing).

Wentz has thrown for 3,074 yards and 21 touchdowns this season while posting a 102.2 quarterback rating.

However, it was Nick Foles who returned to his starting role in the win over the Rams, as he did an excellent job leading the Eagles from start to finish in what was a must-win game.

That should give Pederson and company some encouragement entering the final two weeks of the regular season because, at this point, it feels like Wentz's return is unlikely unless it happens in the postseason.

Of course, the Eagles have to get their first, and it all starts with the showdown against Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans this weekend.

After that, Philly will go on the road for a Week 17 matchup against the Washington Redskins, who are also trying to secure a playoff spot.
