The Philadelphia Eagles received both bad and good news on Tuesday. Tight end Dallas Goedert left Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals with an ankle injury, and the initial read was he would be out for an extended period.

Indeed, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Goedert suffered a fracture in his ankle. However, it does not seem the injury will require surgery, and the Eagles are confident the timetable will not be “too lengthy.”

The Eagles will hope Goedert can recover ahead of schedule.

Philadelphia's receiving corps is ailing. Alshon Jeffrey is progressing, but has also yet to make his season debut. Jalen Reagor is out for at least six weeks with a thumb injury, and DeSean Jackson was also pulled from Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.

But this might be the worst blow yet.

Zach Ertz is Philly's star at the tight end spot, but Goedert's emergence last year suggested the Eagles could run multiple tight end sets.

Indeed, Goedert's 2020 campaign got off to a fast start. The 25-year-old had eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Despite hauling in just four receptions in Week 2, Goedert had eight targets. Clearly, he had established himself as a top option for Carson Wentz.

Instead, Wentz and the rest of the Eagles offense will have to trudge on without Goedert, and Ertz will likely have a larger workload after catching seven passes for 70 yards in Week 3.

Regardless, the Eagles are running short on receiving weapons, and they will hope Goedert can return sooner rather than later.
